BMW introduced a new concept SUV named iX Flow which is covered with “digital paper,” the same sort used in Kindle screens, that lets it change color at the push of a button.

BMW is bringing the first ever electric SUV to the next level with a color-changing exterior, a cinema screen in the rear, and an improved audio system from the renowned composer Hans Zimmer whom they had worked with before to create BMW EVs start-up sound.

This electric car with an $84,000 price tag will be available in the following years, with more extra features. BMW explained how driving its iX electric small SUV will be the “ultimate digital experience” at the CES trade show on Wednesday.

The revolutionary EV uses E Ink, or electronic ink, which can be found on e-readers like the Kindle, to wrap areas of the car’s bodywork. The design team named it “BMW iX Flow” and characterised it as “absolutely wonderful.”

It makes use of electrophoresis, which involves moving molecules with electric currents, and in this scenario, digital ink. And for time being, the color-switch possibilities are fairly monochromatic, varying from black to white to gray, and as such the patterns and designs that might be placed into the vehicle is the focus for now.

However, BMW representatives were sure that additional and colorful alternatives will be provided in the future. The car may become very individualised or, on the other hand, highly informational using digital ink.

Low battery notifications or cautions about other maintenance concerns will display right on the car’s surface, according to BMW. For the time being, the Flow exterior is more about demonstrating what is possible.

BMW is teaming with Amazon to incorporate Amazon Fire TV integration in the infotainment system for the “ultimate digital experience” inside the car.

That entertainment is seen on an ultra-wide 31-inch, 4K screen that swings downwards into the backseat out from roof of the vehicle. The brightness for the “Theatre Screen” will be changed for optimal movie viewing.

It will be operated via remote and touch, with controls incorporated into the back doors.
