The former player, born in Meadowlands, was introduced to football through his father, who was an ardent Kaizer Chiefs supporter.
Teko made his debut at Ria Stars in 1999 and played for major clubs including Cape Town, Supersport United, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, and represented his country at the 2008 Nations Cup, the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
He is currently a member of the Cape Town City Football Club, has made 66 appearances for his national team from 2007 to 2012 and is known to be one of the best soccer players in South Africa in the modern period.

Decorated South African soccer player Siphiwe Tshabalala is one of the most talented soccer players in the South Africa Premier League who is currently signed to Turkish team Büyükşehir Belediye Erzurumspor in 2018 after having had a long stint with Kaizer Chiefs.

He is a regular player for the South African National Team Bafana Bafana and has played 3 AFCON tournaments and scored a spectacular 2010 World Cup goal.
