The $28 million Rolls Royce Boat Tail is the most ambitious endeavor the company has ever undertaken, and is currently the most expensive vehicle in the world, with its owners rumored to be Jay Z and Beyonce.

Whenever a Rolls-Royce Phantom or Cullinan becomes too ubiquitous for you and you have millions to spend, you order something like this nautical-themed Rolls-Royce Boat Tail picnic vehicle from the premium carmaker’s Coachbuild subsidiary.

With this Bespoke vehicle, Coachbuild, in conjunction with its clients, has defied all preconceived concepts of potential and set a new benchmark.

The Boat Tail is an antithesis to industrialized luxury, according to the manufacturer. According to Alex Innes, Director of Rolls-Royce Coachbuild Design, “Rolls-Royce offers as a palette onto which clients reflect their unique interests.”

Rolls-Royce Coachbuild, according to CEO Torsten Müller-tvös, will be able to manufacture a one-of-a-kind car to a customer’s exact specifications.

J-Class racing boats were used as inspiration for the Boat Tail convertible, both for their purity of form and hand-craftsmanship. As a homage to the traditional wooden construction of yachts, the downward-sloping aft deck has oak with brushed stainless steel pinstripe inlays.

With the Boat Tail’s forerunner “Sweptail,” Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, which is owned by German automobile manufacturer BMW, reintroduced the craft of coachbuilding in 2017.

The deck opens at the touch of a button to reveal the hosting suite, a chest loaded with items for a high-class picnic in the park, according to Rolls-Royce.

The chest houses a refrigerator stocked with cocktails and food, as well as flatware bearing the name Boat Tail inscribed on it. Cocktail tables open on either side of the hosting suite, offering access to two stools, completing the open – air eating experience.

Rolls-Royce has still not revealed much technical specifics about the car other than the fact that it’s 5.8 meters long from tip to tail, which is the same length as the Phantom model.
