richest black south africans

Patrice Motsepe is among South Africa’s wealthiest black people, as well as one of the world’s wealthiest black men. He has risen from the ashes to amass a wealth of more than $2 billion, which he has amassed through his mining firm and other assets.

As  someone who has worked incredibly hard to acquire his wealth, he rewards himself by purchasing the best that money can buy.

He lives in one of South Africa’s most opulent estates and has a fleet of exotic automobiles worth millions.

Patrice Motsepe humble beginnings

Patrice was born in 1962 in South Africa, where he was raised in a business-oriented household. His father, who had a little shop, taught him the basics of business, which he would use to become a millionaire many years later.

His work in the shop also exposed him to the mining industry, since he was constantly approached by miners. Patrice Motsepe began his career as a lawyer after earning a law degree from the University of the Witwatersrand.

He worked as a lawyer for a period, rising to become the firm’s first black partner, before deciding to work in the mining business when Nelson Mandela was elected president and opted to support black empowerment.

After purchasing various gold mines from AngloGold, he created Future Mining and eventually African Rainbow Minerals. He quickly paid off the debt associated with the mining acquisition and began increasing his wealth.

Patrice Motsepe expanded by establishing Ubuntu-Botho Investments (UBI), that later establish the African Rainbow Capital (ARC), under which he would create a total of forty companies, including luxury property estate Val de Vie, TymeBank, industrial group Afrimat, and telecoms company Rain, among several others.

Patrice Motsepe’s Mansion

The owner of Mamelodi Sundowns spent R69 million on a property in Bishopscourt, Cape Town, back in 2014. The house sits on a 12,000m2 block of land. The house was originally listed for R98 million before being dropped by R20 million, but the businessman was able to negotiate a lower price.

The opulent home comprises two wings: the main residential section and the staff section. It includes everything one might want in a home of this caliber: six bedrooms, each with its own dressing room, a dining room with seating for 24 people, a movie theatre, and state of the art wine cellar.

There’s also a gym, a swimming pool, a tennis court, and a billiard room in the mansion. One feature that is even more stunning than the 10-bay garage is another bay that is specifically created for washing automobiles.

Motsepe purchased a 20% share in Val de Vie Investments in 2016, making him a co-owner of the estate. Although the sum he paid for the property has not been publicized, it is said to be one of Val de Vie’s most significant transactions. Furthermore, a 2000 m2 site sold for R9 million, according to a statement.
