Patrice Motsepe humble beginnings
Patrice was born in 1962 in South Africa, where he was raised in a business-oriented household. His father, who had a little shop, taught him the basics of business, which he would use to become a millionaire many years later.
His work in the shop also exposed him to the mining industry, since he was constantly approached by miners. Patrice Motsepe began his career as a lawyer after earning a law degree from the University of the Witwatersrand.
He worked as a lawyer for a period, rising to become the firm’s first black partner, before deciding to work in the mining business when Nelson Mandela was elected president and opted to support black empowerment.
After purchasing various gold mines from AngloGold, he created Future Mining and eventually African Rainbow Minerals. He quickly paid off the debt associated with the mining acquisition and began increasing his wealth.
Patrice Motsepe expanded by establishing Ubuntu-Botho Investments (UBI), that later establish the African Rainbow Capital (ARC), under which he would create a total of forty companies, including luxury property estate Val de Vie, TymeBank, industrial group Afrimat, and telecoms company Rain, among several others.

Although the sum he paid for the property has not been publicized, it is said to be one of Val de Vie’s most significant transactions.
