Modise began his professional football career in the lower levels with Ria Stars and City Pillars, where he also won the Golden League Player of the Season award.

It was the start of a fantastic career for him, as he was promptly recruited by SuperSport United.

After only one season, the Orlando Pirates came calling. Modise won many individual honours during his time with the Buccaneers, including PSL Footballer of the Year and SAFA Footballer of the Year.

The schism between Modise, Chairman Irvin Khoza, and former coach Ruud Krol, which allowed him to join Mamelodi Sundowns, is still a cause of annoyance for many Pirates fans.

Modise retired from football with his final club, Cape Town City, following a stellar career at the highest level.
